WASHINGTON DC: (September 22, 2009) – On a sunny & beautiful day on the Washington DC National Mall, The United States Polo Team, Captained by Tareq Salahi, played against the India-American Polo Team and teams from Chicago Wind & the DC Patriots in the Opening Ceremonies for the Land Rover America’s Polo Cup on Saturday, September 19 on the historic National Park grounds of the DC National Mall.  Thousands of Fans & Spectators alike attended the annual opening ceremonies, and were treated to a thrilling match along with fine cuisine by the Jockey Club, PF Changs, Aroma Indian Cuisine & Georgetown Cupcakes.  In addition, it was announced during the weekend event that the DC National Mall Polo grounds is now the official home to the 2010 Land Rover America’s Polo Cup World Championships, which is scheduled for June 11 & 12, 2010.

 

Key note speeches were delivered by Her Excellency Shankar of India, Government representatives, Tareq Salahi, Team Captain of the US Polo Team, Michaele Salahi, Model and Fashion expert and Secretary Scott, representing The Honorable Mayor Fenty, from the DC Mayors Office in Washington DC.  After the Ambassador's speech event chairs Rajeev and Seema Sharma delivered a speech followed by the reading of the Mayors letter by Secretary Scott whom hand delivered a proclamation on behalf of the Mayor of Washington DC proudly welcoming the America’s Polo Cup to the city.   In attendance were numerous top level White House Staff, CEOs from the private sector, Senate members, Congressional leaders and numerous recording artists.   Cuisine was provided by the 5 Star Jockey Club restaurant, PF Changs China Bistro & Aroma Indian Catering.

 

At the event Mr. & Mrs. Salahi presented the "Presidents Best Sponsor Award" to ABSI Corporation and it was accepted by Rajeev and Seema Sharma, event chairs.

 

A special patriotic opening ceremony was performed by the US Marines Drum & Bugle Crops, followed immediately by 10 Time Grammy Award Winner Claude McKnight performing the National Anthem.   Action packed Polo games filled the day, with general attendance crowds in attendance on the sidelines in the thousands of onlookers. Superstar MYA performed a 30 minute concert special during Half Time, singing all her top hits.

 

Michaele Salahi organized a Fashion Show on the DC National Mall that featured top designers from the US & India.  Michaele announced that a special 30 minute Rockin the Runway Fashion Show will take place on June 11, 2010 on the DC National Mall with the US & India’s Top designers.

 

The day continued, with the Best Hat Contest during the traditional Pretty Woman Divot Stomp.  Prizes were awarded by the Ted Gibson Spa for the traditional “Best Hat Contest”.

 

Makers Mark presented the Best Playing Pony award to one of the players of the India/America Team.  Most Valuable Player (MVP) was awarded to Paras Sharma.

 

Other event highlights included thrilling flyovers by Military Helicopters, a Military tradition of the America’s Polo Cup annually.  

 

Sponsorships, Marketing, Advertising and Tables are now on sale for the 2010 America’s Polo Cup World Championships.
